Easy San Marzano Tomato Sauce
Create a delicious homemade tomato sauce in 20 minutes! Use on pizza, pasta, to dip, etc.

- 28 oz San Marzano Whole Peeled Tomatoes
- 3 tablespoon Extra Virgin Olive Oil
- 6 cloves Garlic chopped
- 1/2 teaspoon Red Pepper Flakes optional; I used almost 1 tsp but adjust to taste
- 1/2 cup Water
- 1/2 teaspoon Granulated Sugar
- Kosher Salt & Black Pepper to taste
- 8 leaves Fresh Basil
Instructions
- Pour the can of San Marzano tomatoes in a large bowl and smash with a potato masher until desired texture. I kept some chunks in mine. Alternatively, add the tomatoes to a food processor and pulse to desired texture.
- Heat olive oil in a large sauté pan or saucepan over medium low heat. Add garlic and cook for 3 minutes, stirring often so the garlic doesn't burn. Add the optional red pepper flakes and cook for another minute, stirring often.
- Add the crushed tomatoes, water, granulated sugar, and salt & pepper to taste. Stir ingredients to combine.
- Add the fresh basil. Simmer the sauce for 10 minutes.
- Serve the sauce with the dish of your choice such as pasta or pizza.
