Recipe Details

I love recipes that use things I typically have in my pantry so I can throw them together spur of the moment. That's exactly what this Easy San Marzano Tomato Sauce is. Just a can of tomatoes, olive oil, garlic, sugar, and some seasoning. If you have some fresh basil on hand then toss it in, but dried basil would work in a pinch as well!

Recipe Ingredients

Recipe Instructions

  1. Pour the can of San Marzano tomatoes in a large bowl and smash with a potato masher until desired texture. I kept some chunks in mine. Alternatively, add the tomatoes to a food processor and pulse to desired texture.
  2. Heat olive oil in a large sauté pan or saucepan over medium low heat. Add garlic and cook for 3 minutes, stirring often so the garlic doesn't burn. Add the optional red pepper flakes and cook for another minute, stirring often.
  3. Add the crushed tomatoes, water, granulated sugar, and salt & pepper to taste. Stir ingredients to combine.
  4. Add the fresh basil. Simmer the sauce for 10 minutes.
  5. Serve the sauce with the dish of your choice such as pasta or pizza.
