Get ready to have dinner on the table in 20 minutes with this Blackened Salmon recipe! I was blown away with how easy it was to make this salmon. I audibly exclaimed with excitement the first time I flipped my salmon to see the perfectly blackened crust.

What is Blackened Salmon?

Blackened salmon is a delicious and flavorful dish made by coating a salmon fillet with a blend of spices known as blackened seasoning and then searing it in a hot skillet until the exterior is crispy and blackened. The blackened seasoning creates a deliciously smoky, spicy, and slightly sweet flavor that pairs perfectly with the rich, buttery taste of the salmon.

To make the salmon, the seasoning is rubbed onto the salmon fillets and then the fillets are seared in a hot skillet until a blackened crust forms. The salmon is then flipped over and cooked until it is fully cooked through. Blackened salmon can be served on its own as a main dish, or it can be used as a filling for tacos, salads, or sandwiches.

How to Make Homemade Blackened Seasoning

You can buy a pre-made blackened seasoning spice blend from the grocery store, but blackened seasoning is actually really easy to make on your own. It uses many seasonings you likely already have on hand. Feel free to adjust to your own liking, but I used the following seasonings:

How to Cook the Blackened Salmon

  1. Mix together blackened seasoning ingredients in a small bowl.
  2. Pat the salmon dry. Rub the ghee onto each salmon filet. Evenly sprinkle the blackened seasoning onto each filet to generously coat. Pat down to help the seasoning stick.
  3. Heat a stainless steel or nonstick pan over medium heat. Add the salmon, seasoning side down. Cook for 4 minutes until a blackened crust has formed.
  4. Flip the salmon and cook for 3 minutes on the other side, or until the salmon has cooked through.
  5. Serve right away with lime juice as desired.

How to Serve

I made homemade tortillas - I love this recipe for making tortillas. Many people prefer corn tortillas for fish tacos, but I'm a flour tortilla girl personally!

Next, I broke the blackened salmon into pieces and placed in the homemade tortillas.

Finally, I spooned on some of my Avocado Mango Salsa. This tropical salsa was PERFECT with the salmon. The sweet and citrusy flavors paired perfectly with the rich and spicy flavors of the salmon.

Other Ideas:

  1. Serve with a side of rice or pasta
  2. Serve with some sautéed vegetables such as broccoli
  3. Serve with a simple lemony salad
  4. Pair with my Avocado Mango Salsa on a plate rather than a taco
  5. Make a blackened salmon sandwich
