Why You’ll Love this Baked Orzo

  • Extra-creamy sauce with Boursin: Swapping feta for creamy garlic and herb Boursin makes the sauce richer and more flavorful. Try my Boursin and Fig Phyllo Cups if you’re looking for more ways to cook with Boursin!
  • Easy one pan recipe: The orzo, cheese, tomatoes, and broth all cook together in a single baking dish, so there is no need to boil water or wash extra pots.

Tomato, Boursin, and Shrimp baked Orzo FAQ’s

Can I use a different flavor of Boursin cheese in tomato , Boursin, and shrimp baked orzo?

Yes. I used Garlic & Fine Herbs, but any flavor of Boursin works well in this recipe. Try Shallot & Chive or Black Pepper for a fun twist.

Can I make tomato, Boursin, and shrimp baked orzo without shrimp?

Absolutely. You can leave the shrimp out and serve the baked orzo as a vegetarian main or side dish. If you want extra protein, pair it with chicken, salmon, or another protein of your choice.

Can I use frozen shrimp in tomato, Boursin, and shrimp baked orzo?

Yes. Thaw the shrimp completely and pat them dry before adding them to the baking dish. This ensures they cook evenly and don’t water down the sauce.

How do I reheat leftover tomato, Boursin, and shrimp baked orzo?

Reheat in the oven at 350°F until warmed through, or in the microwave in short intervals.

Ingredients

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 400°F. Place the block of Boursin in the center of a 9×13-inch baking dish. Scatter the orzo around the cheese, then add the shallot, garlic, and tomatoes evenly on top.
  • Season with red pepper flakes, salt, and black pepper. Drizzle with olive oil, then pour in the chicken broth. Cover tightly with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
  • Check if most of the liquid has absorbed. If it still looks very soupy, bake for another 5–10 minutes.
  • Remove from the oven. Stir in the baby spinach until wilted and the sauce comes together with the melted Boursin and burst tomatoes.
  • Season the shrimp with salt and pepper. Arrange them in an even layer on top of the orzo. Bake uncovered for 10 minutes, or until the shrimp are pink and cooked through. (See Note)
  • Divide into bowls and serve. Drizzle with extra olive oil if desired.

    1. Hi Ann, I haven’t tried swapping rice for the orzo. Arborio rice (the type used for risotto) absorbs liquid differently, so I wouldn’t recommend baking it exactly as written. You could cook the rice on the stovetop per package directions, then bake the other ingredients (minus the chicken broth and orzo) as instructed. Finally, mix the cooked rice with the baked tomato, Boursin, and shrimp mixture.

this is the second time making this recipe. instead of shrimp i used cut up boneless, skinless chicken breasts and my own version of Boursin (almost 2/3 block off softened cream cheese and herbs/ spices).
    SO YUMMY! Thank you

  2. Absolutely delicious! I had to cook it about 40 min before most of the moisture was absorbed and about 15 minutes after I added the spinach and shrimp (they were very large shrimp). Our family loved it! I will definitely be making it again! Thanks for the great recipe!

    1. Thank you so much for trying out the recipe and leaving this kind review! I’m so glad your whole family enjoyed!

Absolutely delicious! Instructions and measurements are spot on. I used butterflied shrimp and the only variance I had was 13 minutes rather than 10 minutes in the final shrimp cooking step. I always plus up garlic in any recipe and wasn’t disappointed here. One dish, so easy. Creamy and delicious! This recipe is a keeper.

    1. Hello! I would omit the shrimp and prepare a different protein separately. I linked my air fryer parmesan crusted chicken recipe on the recipe card because it would pair perfectly with this.
