If you're craving a comforting, flavorful soup recipe that's ready in no time, this 10-Minute Wonton Soup is the perfect choice! Made with Trader Joe's Chicken Cilantro Mini Wontons (or any wontons you enjoy) and a handful of simple ingredients, you can create a satisfying meal that's both customizable and delicious.
Wonton soup has always been one of my favorites! There's something special about a warm, savory broth paired with tender wontons. Growing up, my family always made sure to order it when we had Chinese food. The best part? You can easily make this comforting soup at home in just minutes!

Why You’ll Love This Recipe
- Quick & Easy: Only 10 minutes of cooking time and very minimal prep.
- Customizable: Add your favorite veggies, dumplings, or spices.
- Flavorful: So many aromatic flavors thanks to sesame oil, garlic, ginger, and a splash of soy sauce.
- Convenient: Uses mainly freezer/pantry staples. It's even more convenient if you opt for Trader Joe’s frozen garlic and ginger cubes (I love these for soups!)
What ingredients do I need for this wonton soup?
- 1 tbsp Sesame Oil
- 4 cloves Garlic, finely minced/grated (or use frozen cubes)
- 4 tsp Ginger, finely minced/grated (or use frozen cubes)
- 4 Green Onion, sliced (divide tops and bottoms)
- 4 cups Chicken Broth
- 1 tbsp Soy Sauce
- 2 tsp Rice Vinegar
- 1/2 tsp White Pepper
- 20 Trader Joe's Chicken Cilantro Mini Wontons - Feel free to use any frozen wontons you enjoy for this recipe! If you prefer, you can also make homemade wontons for the soup. Just keep in mind that larger wontons will take longer to cook through, so adjust the cooking time accordingly.
- 1 cup Baby Spinach, or greens of choice (I used a baby spinach/baby kale mix)
- Sambal Oelek, optional (to serve) - this would also be delicious with sriracha, chili oil, or chili crunch of your choice!
Tell me more about the frozen garlic and ginger cubes at Trader Joe's!

Trader Joe's frozen garlic and ginger cubes are a convenient and time-saving kitchen staple. These small cubes of pre-minced garlic and ginger are perfect for adding flavor to your dishes without the hassle of peeling, chopping, or grating. In my experience, they taste very similar to fresh garlic and ginger—and may even be more flavorful! I particularly love using them in soup recipes, as they easily melt right into the broth, infusing it with a rich, aromatic flavor.
How do I make this quick soup recipe?
- Heat sesame oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add the white part of the green onions, along with the garlic and ginger. Sauté for 2–3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the mixture becomes fragrant.
- Pour in chicken broth, soy sauce, rice vinegar, and add white pepper. Stir and bring to a boil.
- Add the wontons to the boiling broth and cook them according to the package instructions. If using Trader Joe's mini wontons, they will be ready in just 2 minutes. Add the baby spinach or your greens of choice to the pot and cook for about 1–2 minutes, or until just wilted.
- Ladle the soup into bowls and garnish with the green tops of the onions. For a spicy kick, add an optional dollop of sambal oelek on top.
