Have dinner ready in 30 minutes with this Miso Calabrian Chili Shrimp Pasta! This dish is a delicious fusion of Italian and Japanese flavors. It’s spicy and full of umami! Cook the shrimp and sauce in the same pot, and then just toss in some cooked linguine. So quick and easy!

I love to use the Trader Joe’s Italian Bomba Sauce for the Calabrian chili paste. This is an Italian fusion recipe, so I used Calabrian chlili paste, but you could definitely use something like Sambal Oelek as well.

These are the ingredients I used for the sauce. The soy sauce and white miso are from the Asian aisle of my regular grocery store. The Italian Bomba Calabrian Chili Sauce is from Trader Joe’s. The palm sugar is from the Southeast Asian section of my International grocery store.

Ingredients

Shrimp

Pasta

Instructions

Sauce

  • In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, white miso, Calabrian chili paste, and sugar. Set aside.

Shrimp

  • If using frozen shrimp, thaw and pat dry. Season generously with white pepper and salt.
  • In a large high-rimmed sauté pan, melt 2 tbsp butter over medium heat. Add the shrimp and cook for 3 minutes. Flip and cook for another 2-3 minutes until cooked through. Transfer to a plate and set aside.

Pasta

  • Cook the linguine according to package instructions. Reserve about 1 cup of hot pasta water.
  • Meanwhile, in the same sauté pan, add another tbsp of butter. Melt over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and cook for 2 minutes, stirring often.
  • Pour in the sauce from Step 1. Stir to combine and cook for 3 minutes, stirring often. Pour in about 1/4 cup of the reserved pasta water and scrape up any stuck bits from the bottom of the pan.
  • Transfer the cooked linguine to the sauté pan. Add the remaining tbsp of butter, parmesan cheese, and about a 1/2 cup of the reserved pasta water. Toss until everything is well combined. Add additional pasta water as needed to reach the desired consistency. Add back the cooked shrimp and toss to combine.
  • Serve immediately with additional parmesan cheese, torn basil, and a drizzle of hot Italian chili oil as desired.

The flavors make sense and were good but this recipe is extremely salty. I could only make it through half. If there was a way to cut down on the salt I’d say make it but as is, it’s an absolute salt bomb.

    1. Sorry to hear it was too salty! You can definitely lower the salt in the recipe by adjusting the amount of salt on the shrimp, using low-sodium soy sauce, or even reducing the amount of miso. Thanks for trying the recipe and leaving your feedback.
